You have now decided that a career in the water industry is right for you. What is next? This is a very important question and one where we will work to solve together. Your options in getting started will depend a little on you. Let’s take a look:
- You could jump right in and start looking for work. You don’t really need much experience to get started. This could also assist you in figuring out whether this career is really for you. It could even expedite your ability to grow faster down the road. The key to getting higher will be experience and education. The experience part is needed to qualify for higher level exams. You cannot grow without having hands-on experience.
- You could go to school first and start educating yourself. This also allows you to gain knowledge and see if this industry is right for you. It also allows you to get an idea of what to expect on these tests. The benefit of getting your education is you won’t have to worry about that part while you work since you would be done with that. This is huge because there are people that must go to school right after a hard long day working to qualify for exams.
- The last option would be to jump right in and take the tests and get certified. By having your certifications, you would have an edge over the competition. I thought you said you couldn’t test without education and experience? There is a total of 10 certifications you could get. The first two do not require any education or experience. Be warned, the exams are difficult. You should try to prep before taking them.
There you have it. Three different routes to take to begin your journey. Before I forget, I want to point out that having a high school diploma or GED is required. You cannot test for these exams without having one of these two. I have had to reject candidates when they apply for not having these. It is unfortunate but you cannot be a certified operator without a high school diploma or GED. Sorry!
